Run a Local Food Drive
Putting together a baby food drive is the perfect way to pull together your community, social organization, religious group or children's club in ways you may never have imagined.
Amazingly it's so much simpler than you might think. The key is that it takes very little to convince people that helping children in need is a great idea. After all, who can say no to feeding a child. Instead, the only thing you need to worry about is "getting out the word." If you can do that, and do it well, you'll be swamped with donations from caring members of your community, and hundreds of children will reap the rewards of your efforts.
With the ease of communicating through e-mail these days, mounting such a drive is easier than ever. A simple flyer, e-mailed to all 1000 Little League families in your town can generate thousands of jars of baby food in a weekend. A flyer, photocopied and distributed to all the kids in your elementary school will generate food by the case!
For the last 10 years, I've run a Thanksgiving Food drive within the Shrewsbury schools. The process has been very simple. With the permission of the Superintendent, and then the Principal in each of the elementary and middle schools, I print up 1200 flyers, and have them sorted into packets of 25. We drop them at the front desk at the schools, and they get put out into each teachers mailbox. The teachers pass them out to all the children in class, and within a week, the food starts to pour in. How much food? Well, in the last 2 food drives, we've collected roughly 18 TONS of food, just from a few schools in my home town.
We can provide you with all the basic materials you'll need. Pre-designed flyers, list of items in need, guidelines on organizing your drive, or any other support that you could ask for. All you need to do is to get out the word however you can....and collect the food when it comes in.
You can't imagine the great feeling this promotes in the children and in the community as a whole when one of these drives takes place.
Here is a sample flyer that we prepared for a local business. Just let us know the specifics, and we can do yours in minutes. SAMPLE FLYER
We're also looking for interested high school students from around the state to be our eyes and ears in their community and serve on our Advisory Board. Not only will you help hundreds of children, but you gain valuable experience in working within a great organization.
